Firewall
Every computer connected to the internet can be the victim of an attack by hackers. The methodology generally used consists in scanning the network (by sending random data packets) in search of a connected terminal, then finding a security flaw to access the data it contains.
This threat is more important when the terminal is permanently connected to the internet, for several reasons: the target terminal can be connected without being monitored; the target terminal is generally connected to multiple bands, while the target terminal does not change (or rarely) IP address. It is therefore necessary to protect yourself against network intrusions by installing a dedicated protection device.
What is a firewall
A firewall (also called a fire wall, a fireproof wall, a fire wall, fire screen or fire barrier) is a system that allows you to protect a computer or computer network from intrusions from an unknown network (especially the Internet). The firewall is a system that allows to filter the data packets exchanged with the network, it is therefore a filtering gateway with the following network interfaces: an interface for the network to be protected (internal network) and an interface for the external network:
The firewall system is a software system, sometimes based on dedicated hardware, which constitutes an intermediary between the (or the local terminal) and one or more external networks. It is possible to put a firewall system on any terminal and with any system as long as the terminal is powerful enough to process traffic, that the system is secure and that no other service other than filtering packets works on the server. If the firewall system is provided “turnkey”, the term appliance is used.
